It’s just about 30 minutes past the New Year on the east coast as I write this. I’m up and making coffee. It’s another bright, sunny day here in Bahrain.
I made tapas for our New Year’s dinner…we enjoyed all the little taste treats. I LOVE the whole idea of eating that way.
Hubs and I did not make it to midnight last night. We watched movies and conked out about 10:30 Bahrain time.
I (surprisingly) did not take pictures of the food, or I’d share them with you…my sister-in-love did, however, take a picture of their Russian New Year feast…pilmins – kind of like a Russian ravioli, caviar, smoked fish, fish with fur…that one freaked me out. My brother enjoyed pulling my leg on that one. It’s actually fish with beets. You can see it to the left in the picture. (I’ve got no clue why they call it “fish with fur”.)
You can click on the picture to see a larger image. She was playing in the flour then decided to dump the bowl on her head and roll in it. This is a picture of my niece "on flour". She helped them make pilmins…too funny not to share. Glad I didn’t have to clean her up. It’s a good thing she likes baths!
Bahrain Agenda for the Day
Today, we’re going to see if we can find the police roundabout so we can go to the Bahrain Craft Center. (We’ve tried before and haven’t been successful.) We may also hit the camel farm. Apparently, the king’s brother or uncle - some relative of the royal family - has a big place and let’s people come see his camels…kind of like a camel preserve where you can watch them working and being trained.
Then we’re headed to Al Jazira to get some bacon so hubs can make his special tapa – dates stuffed with blue cheese and then wrapped in apple honey bacon. Sooooo good! (We had something similar at Cafe Sevilla in San Diego last time we were there, and hubs was inspired to make them at home. Mmmm, tasteeeeee.)
I took pictures of hubs making them the other night. I'll post those on the side later today.
Delicious!
P.S. I am posting this "note" from my ezine on the blog since it no longer wants to send updates to Twitter. (Have to figure out what happened. I think it has to do with my changing the password on Twitter.)
If you haven't signed up for my ezine...please do so. I'd love to get to know you better!
I'm going to post some articles here on the blog so you can get an idea of what the ezine's all about. People seem to be enjoying it and getting a lot of value from it.
