Who - or what - is pulling Your strings?
There's a lot of stress and fear in the economy, the news, the world lately...and it seems to be moreso since the financial crash.
(Money troubles bring up all kinds of issues and FEAR.)
So, what can you do to sidestep the fear?
I think what we forget is that we can control what we let into our lives. We have an obligation to do so. Your environment and what that looks like - and feels like - is up to you.
Now, I'm not some religious, tv hater. I enjoy watching certain shows.
However, I stopped listening to the news years ago.
I realized eventually that all listening to the news accomplished, was that my "state", my mindset, my inner peace would end up disturbed.
And you know what, my not listening to the constant negativity hasn't in any way affected world affairs.
It has however had huge positive effects in my life...less stress and my sense of dread is gone. Plus, I found I have more time to pursue my life and make a positive impact.
In fact, I don't even have t.v. (I have a t.v. I just don't get any channels...and don't think I'm some "holier than thou" person because I don't have t.v. I miss some stuff like Discovery and the History Channel, but I can rent dvds or watch what I choose on the internet.)
When I wish to veg out and watch t.v., I either rent a movie or watch something that's available via the internet. For example, I enjoy the shows NCIS and Supernatural, and I just discovered a cute show called "Chuck".
The point is, I choose what I'm bringing into the house. The same can be done with the tv in your house.
I remember when I went "sans" tv several years ago. Neither my roommate at the time nor my husband, who was my then boyfriend, had ever even owned a tv.
When I decided to go totally tv-less, it looked like I was going to be laid off from my job and my roommate and I moved into my (now) hubs' place while he was away. As a means to save money, we went without tv.
Granted, there was a withdrawal period, but once passed - and it didn't take terribly long, I didn't miss it.
It's amazing how much more time I have without tv...and how much less stress.
My experience is that limiting tv - or at least the news - is a great way to sidestep the fear mongering.
Make a choice not to participate. You might be surprised how little the bad news affects you when you take control of your environment this way.
(Lest you worry that you'll "miss something" - trust me, if you need to know something, it'll find you...and if you need to know something, you can find it.)
